Enjoy the story of the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin Railroad, and important and popular electric interurban railroad that helped build the Western Suburbs . From Chicago west to the Fox River Valley, this electric railway provided passenger and freight service connecting the western suburbs with Chicago from 1902 to 1959 . Learn about the development, operation and final decline of the once nicknamed, “Great Third Rail” . Topics will include the Villa Park station (that was also a real estate office) and the development of communities such as Hillside, Westchester and Berkley.
