Elections: Filing for March Primary Starts Nov. 25

Last day to file is Dec. 2.

Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots is reminding candidates who will be filing petitions for the March 18, 2014 General Primary Election, that the first day to file is Monday, Nov. 25, at 8:30 a.m., in the County Clerk’s Office, 302 N. Chicago St. in Joliet. The Will County Clerk’s Office will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday on November 28 and 29, 2013. The last day for filing is Monday, Dec. 2, at 5:00 p.m. 

Candidates who file simultaneously at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 25, or within the last hour (between 4 and 5 p.m.) on Dec. 2 will be included in a lottery to determine ballot position. The lottery will take place Dec. 10. 

Any petitions received in the first mail delivery of the first day are also included in the lottery drawing. Candidates who file after 8:30 a.m. on the first day shall be deemed filed in the order of actual receipt. Petitions received by mail before the first day to file, Nov. 25, will be returned.

Nomination petitions will be accepted for the following offices: County Clerk, County Treasurer, County Sheriff, and Regional Superintendent of Schools (four-year terms); two County Board members (four-year terms) from County Board Districts 2, 5, 9 and 11, and also petitions for the election of Precinct Committeemen (two-year terms).
