Candidates Start Filing for March Election on Nov. 25

The last day to file is Dec. 2. Candidates who file simultaneously at the beginning of the first day or the end of the last will have ballot place determined by lottery.

The first day for candidates in Will County to file election petitions to be on the March 18, 2014, ballot is Nov. 25. Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots issued this news release on what offices are open for election and what candidates need to do to be on the ballot:

Nancy Schultz Voots, Will County Clerk, wishes to remind candidates who will be filing petitions for the March 18, 2014 General Primary Election, that the first day to file is Monday, November 25, 2013, at 8:30 a.m., in the County Clerk’s Office, 302 N. Chicago Street, Joliet. The Will County Clerk’s Office will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday on November 28 and 29, 2013.  The last day for filing is Monday, December 2, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.

Candidates who file simultaneously at 8:30 a.m. on November 25th, or within the last hour (between 4pm and 5pm) on December 2nd, will be included in a lottery to determine ballot position, which will be held on December 10th. Any petitions received in the first mail delivery of the first day are also included in the lottery drawing. Candidates who file after 8:30 a.m. on the first day shall be deemed filed in the order of actual receipt. Petitions received by mail before the first day to file, November 25th, will be returned.

Nomination petitions will be accepted for the following offices: County Clerk, County Treasurer, County Sheriff, and Regional Superintendent of Schools (four-year terms); two County Board members (four-year terms) from County Board Districts 2, 5, 9 and 11, and also petitions for the election of Precinct Committeemen (two-year terms).
