Village Hall, Library Reopen

After the third worst Chicago-area blizzard on record, life is beginning to return to normal.

reopened Thursday, as did all three branches of the . As of early Thursday afternoon, Mayor John Noak said virtually all local roads had been cleared.

“Crews are still out, and they’ll be doing all the finishing touches on some areas,” he said. “All streets should be accessible at this time.”

Stranded motorists and residents without power were also home after seeking shelter at in the village.

But with freezing temperatures expected over the next few days, Noak said village staff is keeping an eye on the weather.

“We’re still continuing to monitor that throughout the season, and we’ll make those warming centers available if necessary,” he said. Residents in need of a warming center should call the 's non-emergency number, 815-886-7219.

Noak said he made a drive through town on Thursday to see how Romeoville is recovering from the snowstorm.

“I’m happy to report that we have not had any major collapses or structural damage, no major injuries,” he said. “Those are things that we are glad to hear.”

Garbage pickup is scheduled to resume for Romeoville residents on Friday. After the cancellation of Wednesday night’s village board meeting, Noak said he expects a new meeting date to be set by the end of the day Thursday.

Des Plaines Valley Public Library District Director Scott Pointon said the Romeoville, Lockport and Crest Hill library branches reopened Thursday after workers completed snow removal in all three parking lots.

“We were open as of noon (Thursday),” he said.

All Will County offices also reopened on Thursday. Classes are schedule to resume Friday at , although all Thursday classes and events are canceled.
