Romeoville's Own 'Stinger' Needs Your Vote in Capital One Football Contest

Former Spartan standout is named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Kent State.

The Stinger is biting off bigger and bigger chunks of yardage.

And that’s a good thing for the Northern Illinois University football team.

Cameron Stingily—a.k.a. The Stinger—rushed for a career-high 266 yards on 37 carries and scored two touchdowns in Northern’s 38-24 victory over Kent State. He helped the Huskies (5-0, 1-0) start the Mid-American Conference season on a high note and climb into The Associated Press top 25 poll for the first time at No. 23.

And Stingily—a Romeoville High School graduate—was named the MAC West’s Offensive Player of the Week. His 266 yards against the Golden Flashes rank as the second-best single-game total for all backs at FBS schools this season and the most by a NIU running back since Garrett Wolfe set the school record with 353 yards at Ball State in 2006.

Stingily, a 244-pound bruiser who stings defenders on contact, also has been nominated for the Capital One Cup Impact Performance of the Week award. To vote for him, visit espn.com/capitalonecup.

The Stinger and the Huskies return to action on Saturday (Oct. 12). NIU faces Akron in a 4 p.m. homecoming game in DeKalb.
