Romeoville Now Third-Largest Community in Will County, Data Shows
Romeoville's population growth of 87.6 percent since 2000 is "great news," according to officials.
Village officials reacted this week to the news that Romeoville’s population has nearly doubled during the past 10 years. On Tuesday, the U.S. Census Bureau released population data for the State of Illinois showing that the village has grown 87.6 percent from 21,153 to 39,680 residents since 2000.
“It’s official,” Mayor John Noak said at the Feb. 16 village board meeting. “Romeoville is the third-largest community in Will County.”
It is now also the 44th largest community in the state, he added.

“That puts Romeoville in the top 5 percent of communities in Illinois,” Noak said. “It’s exciting numbers to see here in the community.”
The growth could translate into more money when it comes to state funding doled out based on population, the mayor noted, including motor fuel tax dollars.

“It will be good to get the proper funding that we should be receiving,” Noak said.
Trustee Sue Micklevitz called the census numbers “great news.”
“I think that’s fantastic,” she said. “We continue to grow and do great things here in Romeoville.”
