Officials: Source of Gas Smell Unknown

Investigation into strong odor fails to yield answers.

 were fielding calls Sunday night from residents reporting a strong gas odor throughout the village.

But an investigation by the didn’t turn up any answers, according to a source at the police department.

Police and firefighters were dispatched to conduct testing but didn’t find anything that could have caused the odor.

“They don’t know what it is, but it was dissipating,” a dispatcher at the Romeoville Emergency Communications Center said shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, adding firefighters had already returned to quarters.

Representatives from Nicor gas and the did not immediately return calls from Patch.

An official with Lemont’s was looking into the report. Romeoville is a member of the network, along with organizations including Nicor, Citgo, Argonne National Lab and Midwest Generation.
