Q: How long have you been in your line of work?

A: "I personally have been doing this since 1986."

Q: Why did you choose to open your business in Romeoville?

A: "We moved to Romeoville in 1978 and we are still here. The people are what make Romeoville special. It has a small-town feel, though it is a thriving community."

Q: What services do you provide?

A: "We provide full-service landscaping, from installing brick paver decks and walls to sod and seeding your home. Also, we offer weekly lawn maintenance." The company also offers snowplowing, de-icing of parking lots and snow relocation in the winter months for commercial and municipal customers.

Q: Who are your biggest clients, and what makes them special?

A: "They are all big clients to us — from the older people whose yards we take care of to our largest commercial accounts. All of our clients are special and we try to take care of them like family."

Q: Why should clients choose your company over similar businesses?

A: "We are a smaller company and able to give our clients one-on-one attention. Also, my employees have been with me for over 20 years."

Q: What's it like to be a woman owning a business in a male-dominated industry?

A: "It's a boys' club. Landscaping is a very challenging business for a woman. When I originally put our name in the Yellowbook, I put it as 'D.L. Sybert.'" Sybert said she's occasionally dealt with clients who assumed her husband or son was the business owner or who wanted to deal with a man. "Unfortunately, to this day, I still run into that," she said. "It's getting better ... I've gotten a lot of good response from a lot of people. I enjoy what I do."

Q: Anything else we should know about you?

"In addition to the business, I am also involved with a Great Pyrenees rescue and several other animal rescues." Donna Sybert serves as owner/president of the company and is an authorized negotiator, working with area villages, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Tollway. Son Andy Sybert is a senior project manager.
