Weber, Renwick Projects Slated to Begin This Summer

It will take two years to complete the major road reconstruction work, according to county officials.

ComEd crews have been busy relocating utilities to make way for a Weber Road construction project, but the project isn’t likely to get under way until this summer, according to a Will County official.

Funded by both Will County and federal dollars, Weber and Renwick roads will be totally rebuilt, according to Will County engineer Bruce Gould.

“It is a complete reconstruction,” he said. Renwick will be expanded to five lanes, while a narrow section of Weber road will become six lanes, matching up with a widening project near the Romeoville .

“It will be three lanes in each direction from Renwick to where the six lanes are at Target south of Airport Road,” Gould told Patch last year.

The project could pave the way for the construction of a near Weber and Renwick.

But residents who spotted the utility crews at work last week shouldn’t get too excited, according to Gould. Both the Will County and state portions of the $11 million project will go out for bid this month, he said — and the county board likely will not vote to finalize a deal with a project contractor until April.

“Construction would start at the very earliest in May, but probably June,” Gould said.

The sheer size of the project means it will have to be completed in stages over two construction seasons.

“The roadway will be torn out and completely replaced,” Gould said. “It’s a big project.”

Romeoville officials have said the Meijer project will not begin until the road reconstruction is completed.
