Romeoville Business Recognized During 'State of the State' Address

Quinn mentions Vintage Tech Recyclers' Karrie Gibson during Feb. 1 speech.

Back in 2005, Karrie Gibson had an innovative — and environmentally friendly — idea.

The local businesswoman launched Vintage Tech Recyclers from her home with the help of a Department of Congress and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) grant. Since then, the company has benefitted from five additional DCEO grants, moving into a 20,000-square-foot Romeoville facility in.

On Feb. 1, Gibson was lauded by Gov. Pat Quinn during his state of the state address.

The Romeoville business offers electronics recycling programs for governments, schools and businesses throughout the state. The company has several drop-off locations, including a Romeoville site at 195 S. Budler Rd., to allow for responsible recycling of outdated and unwanted electronics like old computers, laptops, DVD players and printers.

The company also offers a free at-home electronics pickup service for Will County residents, serving a need that is growing since Illinois banned electronics for landfills, effective Jan. 1, 2012.
