Extreme Heat Means Later Start Time for Romeoville Relay For Life
With the forecast calling for temperatures in the 90s, organizers have rescheduled the event for four hours later than originally planned.
Looking to beat the heat, organizers for the first Relay For Life of Romeoville have bumped the start time by four hours, rescheduling opening ceremonies for 6 p.m. Saturday at Village Hall.
A survivors luncheon originally scheduled for noon at Village Hall has also been pushed back four hours and is now slated to start at 4 p.m., according to Assistant Village Manager Dawn Caldwell.
But the heat, with highs around 90 both Saturday and Sunday, isn't likely to cause participants' enthusiasm to wilt. Twenty-three teams have signed on for the inaugural event, which will kick off with a survivors lap and features games, activities, information on American Cancer Society resources and the famous luminaria ceremony, which honors those fighting cancer and loved ones lost to the disease.
