Comings & Goings: Dairy Queen Orange Julius to Open on Weber

A look at new businesses coming into town and a fond farewell to those that have, for whatever reason, called it quits — and other business developments.

A vacant Romeoville storefront will get new life when a new ice cream shop opens in a Weber Road shopping center.

A coming soon sign in the former location at 648 S. Weber advertises the upcoming opening of a Dairy Queen Orange Julius franchise.

Mayor John Noak said the franchise owners have secured their building permits to complete renovations, but haven't set an opening date yet.

"We don't have a definitive timeline," Noak said, adding the franchise isn't Romeoville's first.

A  — minus the Orange Julius — is located at 29 Alexander Circle. According to Noak, the same franchisees are behind the new location.

An employee at the Alexander Circle business said the owners were not available for comment on Monday.

The new DQ/Orange Julius promises to satisfy the taste buds of ice cream fans and smoothie lovers alike.

According to the business’ website, “A DQ Orange Julius franchise combines our ultra-tempting Dairy Queen treats with our Orange Julius premium fruit smoothies and fruit-blended beverages.”

The eatery will share the shopping center with neighbors , and Mexican restaurant.

"It's exciting to have people opening new locations in our community," Noak said, adding he was just as excited about the dual Dairy Queen/Orange Julius concept.

"We're looking forward to having that element too," Noak said.
