Business Spotlight: Coldwell Banker Honig Bell Broker Associate Steve Engel

Local real estate broker associate and agent Steve Engel gives his tips on buying and selling in today's market.

This week, we caught up with Steve Engel, a broker associate with in Romeoville, to get his advice for potential buyers and sellers in today’s market.

Romeoville Patch: How long have you been a realtor? And how long have you worked with Coldwell Banker Honig Bell?

Steve Engel: I have been a licensed real estate agent since 1987, and a licensed real estate broker since 1999. I have been with Coldwell Banker Honig Bell since 1995 (Honig Realty), and prior to that, I worked at Century 21 in Bolingbrook.

My office is located in Romeoville off of Weber Road, in the same shopping plaza as Tasty Waffle, just south of Walmart.

I work with first-time buyers, sellers, those who wish to downsize, corporate relocation, and can refer you to an excellent agent in any area of the United States.

Patch: What do you enjoy about the real estate business?

Engel: I enjoy the fact that I can help people achieve their dream of home ownership. Most people think it is out of their reach when, in fact, even in today’s economy, most people can find a way to own a home.

Patch: In this economy, what is the best advice you give to those looking to sell their homes?

Engel: With interest rates at their lowest level in years and prices at a more reasonable level, home ownership is more affordable for people today than ever before. The prices today have adjusted downward to a level that’s been unseen for many years and, unlike the last time prices were this low, interest rates are also low at the same time.

Patch: What advice do you have for today’s buyers?

Engel: Do NOT listen to everything you hear on the news today. Local markets are affected differently. So if you think you might want to buy a home, take the time to research with a realtor and see if he or she can get you the home of your dreams.

Patch: Why did you select Romeoville as the location for your business?

Engel: I have been a resident of Romeoville for 23 years, and both of my kids went through the schools here. Both kids have gone onto college — one has graduated and the other will be a sophomore at Northern Illinois University this fall. Romeoville has always been good to my family. Now I can live, shop, eat and work in Romeoville.
