Business Comings & Goings: Liquor Store Closes, Engineering Firm Moves to Romeoville

A look at new businesses coming into town and a fond farewell to those that have, for whatever reason, called it quits.

Firm opens Romeoville branch

HLR (Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc.) recently opened its newest branch office in Romeoville. The firm, which bills itself as “a leading provider of civil engineering, environmental and surveying services,” also has offices in Elgin and Springfield. Its newest digs are located at 1335 Lakeside Dr., Unit 4. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new business is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, according to the Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce. The community is invited to comes see the new location and help the company celebrate.

Last summer, when it moved its Bolingbrook distribution center to a 650,000-square-foot facility in the Pinnacle Business Park at Taylor Road and Southcreek Parkway.

M.I.Q., a third-party logistics company, is leasing the facility and has an agreement with Samsung to handle distribution of Samsung’s electronics, IT and home appliance products.

During his Jan. 10 state of the village address, Mayor John Noak noted an expansion could be in the works for the facility.

“Samsung may exercise their right to expand the facility to over one million square feet as early as 2013,” Noak said, adding the facility is expected to employ more than 300 people during peak seasons.

Duke’s Liquors closes up shop

A local liquor store has called it quits.

, 438 N. Weber Rd., has closed, prompting trustees last week to update a Romeoville ordinance to reduce the number of liquor licenses in the village.
