We have a working model of the NRA's plan
Most criminals aren't afraid of guns. It wouldn't matter if every person in the US had a gun, it would not curb gun violence one bit.
NRA says "More guns, less violence".
We can see how that model works in our own backyard. When criminals in gangs get guns, what do other gang members do? They get guns, too, to protect themselves. Over 85% of gang violence is commited against other gang members, not unarmed non-gang members. Plus the police are armed. So obviously there is no more gun violence in gang riddled areas.
Unfortuntely, these dirtbags aren't afraid of guns. It wouldn't matter if every person in the US had a gun, it would not curb gun violence one bit. What does law enforcement say lessens gun violence? Fewer guns.

How can you keep guns in the hands of law abiding citizens and out of criminal hands? For one, you could prevent a kid from the city with a duffle bag and a stack of cash from being able to go to a gun show just over the border from Chicago, filling up his sack, and taking them back to sell to the gangs. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-02-17/news/ct-met-guns-gangs-201... .
