JJC Presents 'The Diviners'

The Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Department will present “The Diviners: A Play in Two Acts and Elegies,” April 19 at 7:30 p.m.; April 20 at 7:30 p.m.; April 21 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and April 22 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The play written by Jim Leonard Jr. and directed by Tammy Perkins, JJC assistant professor of theatre and speech, will be held in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.

Winner of the American College Theatre Festival, this is a story of a young Indiana boy and the friendship he forges with a disenchanted preacher passing through town looking for work and food during the Great Depression. The two unlikely friends find a common bond and begin their search for truth, faith and hope.

The production features: Faith Berry, Monchetta Wilson, Brenden Casey, Sylmarie Soto and Lauren Huckins of Joliet; Kristin Peterson and Jake Thomas of Frankfort; Michael Vella of Shorewood; Travis Cisco of Morris; and Chance Manzo of Rockdale.

The production is stage managed by Sarah Jandejska of Joliet, who will be assisted by Emma McGee of Joliet and Samantha Schewnn of Plainfield.

As part of the college’s ongoing community service efforts, audience members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or pet and food supplies where they may be exchanged for items at the concession table.  All contributions will be donated to area shelters.

Tickets are $8 for general public, $5 for senior citizens and $3 for students with additional discounts for JJC faculty and staff.
