Auditions for JJC Spring Musical Little Shop Of Horrors Dec. 15 and 16

The Joliet Junior Fine Arts Department will hold auditions for their spring musical, "Little Shop of Horrors," on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 3 and 6 p.m. and on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.

Those interested in auditioning should prepare 16 bars of an upbeat song from a musical, if possible, and be prepared to read from the script.

"Little Shop Of Horrors" by Howard Ashman and music and lyrics by Alan Menken is a rock musical that centers around a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood. This musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film, "The Little Shop of Horrors," which was also remade in 1986.

The music is in the style of early 1960s rock 'n' roll, doo-wop, and early Motown. "Little Shop of Horrors" was the winner of the 1982-1983 New York Drama Critic Circle Award for Best Musical, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical and the Outer Critics Circle Award. The JJC production will be directed by JJC Theatre Technical Supervisor Nicki Blowers. JJC Assistant Professor of Music David Nuccio will provide musical direction.
