Romeoville Woman Receives Excellence Award

DuPage Convalescent Center staffer recognized for work.

Tanya Jones of the DuPage Convalescent Center was recently awarded the distinguished Life Services Network Honoring Excellence Award.

Jones, a Romeoville resident, leads the home’s fall-reduction program as the senior certified nursing rehab aide and has been instrumental in improving lives of the residents while reducing the number of resident falls and injuries. She has been with the county for eight years. Her passion and enthusiasm come from a love of her residents.

“I love the residents. They make my day,” she said. “I like getting to take care of other people’s family because you see their faces everyday and you get to know who they are. They become a part of your family.”

DuPage County Board member Robert Larsen, who also serves as the chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee, said Jones is a true leader at the Convalescent Center.

“Tanya is very compassionate and committed to improving the lives of our residents and serves as a leader to her fellow employees. We have a lot of residents who have personally benefitted from Tanya’s problem solving and persistence to improve their quality of life. The award is a wonderful tribute to Tanya and to the Convalescent Center,” said Larsen.

Jones was one of eight individuals recognized at the Life Services Network’s annual meeting in March and selected out of more than 520 LSN members statewide. She was astounded when she learned she would be receiving the award.

“I had no clue,” she admitted. “You don’t really see yourself how others see you.  It’s amazing.  I was overwhelmed, shocked, appreciative,” she said. “I’m honored to work with wonderful people.”

Christopher Laxton, LSN president, said the award program is designed to recognize employees of older adult service providers who put quality first, deliver excellence and inspire others to do the same.

“The winners of this year’s awards are remarkable individuals, who are committed to contributing to the quality of life of the older adults their organization serves on a daily basis.  Their presence in the lives of the elderly makes all the difference in the world to those who count on them,” he said.
