Judging is Dec. 12 for Village Christmas Decorating Contest

If your house is decked out for the holidays, don't forget to leave those lights on — members of the village's Beautification Commission will be making their rounds on Monday, Dec. 12, to pick their favorite holiday displays for the annual Christmas Decorating Contest.

Those who wish to enter the contest should make sure their outdoor displays are well lit from 6 to 10 p.m. on juding day. Only homes with their lights on will be eligible to win, and judging will be based on the creative use of outdoor decorations. First-, second- and third-place winners will be chosen from the north, south, central and west regions of Romeoville.

There's just one catch: Entrants are only eligible to win the first-place prize once every three years.

Prizes are as follows: 

• First place: $100 gift certificate
• Second place: $80 gift certificate
• Third place: $60 gift certificate

All 12 winners will be listed on Dec. 13 on the village website.

Any decorated home may be nominated by a resident. To register a home call 815-886-7231. Deadline to register is 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.
