Fundraiser Launched to Help Family of Romeoville Shooting Victims

Little-Maloney doesn't know the family, but said she launched the site after talking to Shelie Jones, a neighbor of victims Briana Valle and her 33-year-old mother. The teen was shot twice in the head while her mother, listed in good condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, was shot in the neck. 

Erick Maya, the 23-year-old ex-boyfriend of the teen, has been charged in the shootings and is being held on $5 million bond.

"I'm a mother of six," Little-Maloney said. "I can't imagine losing one of my kids." 

As of late Sunday night, the site had raised close to $800 for the family, who reportedly moved to Romeoville for a fresh start.

"They came here to get away from the violence and to have a better life," Little-Maloney said. 

Will County court records show that the teen's mother recently took out an emergency order of protection against Maya in an effort to keep him away from the teen.

Little-Maloney said she wanted to find a way to help the family.

A lifelong Romeoville resident, Little-Maloney also said she doesn't want the crime to give the community a bad name.

"I want our community to come together," she said. "We have a lot of good people here."

Little-Maloney said plans are also in the works for a fundraiser event.
