Friends are slated to host a Sept. 24 benefit in Romeoville for the family of Jeremy Asbell, the 25-year-old Bolingbrook father of two who died in a canoeing accident earlier this month.

Brianne Bromberek, a friend of Asbell's, said the event is slated for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at , 721 N. Independence Blvd. Proceeds from the benefit will help the family cover funeral costs and help support Asbell’s sons Tyler, age 6, and Landen, 22 months.

Bromberek said she and several of Asbell’s former RHS classmates decided to organize the event in the hopes of lessening the burden on the family after Asbell’s tragic death.
