Hampton, a first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 1979 following an All-America season at the University of Arkansas, earned first- or second-team All-Pro honors as either a defensive tackle or defensive end that led to his Hall of Fame selection in 2002.  Hampton was best known for his ferocious play and persevering through 10 knee surgeries and numerous other injuries that earned him the George S. Halas Courage Award for “performing with abandon despite injury.”  Yet, Hampton and the Bears’ defense are best remembered for their 1985 season and Super Bowl victory.  That year, the Bears destroyed the New England Patriots 46-10 in Super Bowl XX, sacking Patriot quarterbacks seven times.

Hampton continued to play at a high level until finally retiring in 1990, becoming just the second Bear to play in three different decades.  The bottom line for the Bears and Hampton was this:  The Bears won 75 percent of their games when Hampton played and only 33 percent when he didn't.

Since his retirement from the National Football League (NFL), Hampton has worked as a co-host for the syndicated Pro Football Weekly television show which is approaching its 20th season on the air and several other broadcasts.  Hampton also is a part of a Miller Lite and Gridiron Greats promotion to raise funds for retired NFL players in need and participates in "One for the Kids" annual golf tournament that supports charities to help children in the Chicago area.

“Hampton’s life on the sports field represents Senior Star’s dedication to inspiring our seniors to face the challenges of daily living with courage and positivity,” said Michelle Franzak, executive director of Senior Star at Weber Place.  “We spend each day offering our residents innovative, superior and dignified services to help them meet those life tests.”

Seating is limited for this event, so RSVPs are required.  Please call 815.676.5776 to reserve seating.  The first 25 registered guests will receive autographed footballs.  Hampton also will sign autographs and take photos with guests.  Tailgate snacks and drinks will be served in the Weber Place Pub.  Two tailgating gift baskets will be awarded.
