Local Counseling Agency to Host Domestic Violence Awareness Event

Plus, local headlines that didn't make today's newsletter.

Butterflies are being used as a symbol of “new beginnings and hopes” by the folks at Bridges to a New Day, the counseling agency in Romeoville that is hosting a Domestic Violence Awareness Event on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The awareness event runs from 1-3 p.m. at Bridges to a New Day, 215 W. Romeo Road.

“It is said that butterflies represent a person’s soul and that they are symbols of hope and new beginnings,” said Bridges to a New Day volunteer Jen Pulins in an email news release detailing plans for the event. “Join us as we support victims and survivors by honoring their ‘new beginnings and hopes’ through their stories/poems.”

Stories and poems will be read from 1-1:30 p.m. on the day of the event. Then, there will be a workshop—Signs of a Healthy Relationship—from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Pulins said Bridges to a New Day is seeking sponsorships for the event. All proceeds will go toward the agency’s domestic violence program.
