St. Charles Borromeo North Campus

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) will perform its 65th Anniversary Concert on Wednesday May 1, 2024 at 7:30 in the St. Charles Borromeo Convocation Hall at Lewis University (101 W. Airport Rd, Romeoville). Admission is free with donations accepted online and at the door.
Under the direction of Peter Lipari, the celebratory concert will include the 2024 Student Composition Recipient Yeeun Sim's A Song of the Wind, a world premiere of Mike McFerron's Concert Fanfare and special performances by MYSO Alumni which includes the exciting finale of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 4. 
Audience members are invited to attend a post-concert reception in the Flight Deck Cafeteria, just steps away from the concert hall. Guests will enjoy light refreshments, music by Flute Salad, raffle basket prizes and mingling with our composers.
Founded in 1959 the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra has resided in Will County since 1991 with a mission of “welcoming young musicians to explore and develop their talents through musical expression. Together, we foster a life-long love of music for our performers and the diverse communities in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.” Membership in MYSO consists of junior high and high school students from Joliet and 21 surrounding communities as well as students from Lewis University and Joliet Junior College. MYSO currently serves 58 youth musicians during its 2023-2024 Season throughout the southwest suburbs.

Join us for an after hours event with local author and Chicago historian, Julia Bachrach. Sit back and enjoy a glass of wine, beer, or a non-alcoholic beverage, as well as light refreshments, while Bachrach discusses her book The City in a Garden: A History of Chicago's Parks. 
In the 1830s, Chicago's nascent government adopted the "Urbs in Horto," a Latin phrase meaning "City in a Garden." Though the city had few parks or green spaces at the time, the slogan proved to be prophetic. For more than 175 years, Chicago's citizens have rallied for parkland. Today, Chicago has some of the nation's most impressive parks and gardens. Many of these greenspaces were shaped by nationally renowned landscape designers, architects, and artists. 
More about the author: A historic preservation consultant, Bachrach previously served as Chicago Park District's historian and planning supervisor for more than 25 years. She writes extensively on parks, gardens, and other Chicago history topics. 
The talk will be followed by a Q&amp;A session with the audience.

Tickets for the 3rd annual Will County Beer and Bourbon Fest, presented by Blue Ribbon Products, are now available. The event will feature over 100 different kinds of beer and bourbon available to sample, as well as food available for purchase.
Will County Beer and Bourbon Fest, held June 8th outside Hollywood Casino in Joliet, will benefit Will County Habitat for Humanity's Veterans Build program. Last year's Beer and Bourbon Fest raised $138,500.
Live music will include Eve Casino, Righteous Hillbillies, Crooked Tails, The Chicago Blues Angels, The Steepwater Band, Cheryl Rodey, Tom and Becky Duo, David Francis and Colleen Wild, and Ryan Hegarty. 
"This amazing event brings the community together in support of Will County Habitat for Humanity's Veteran Build programs," Will County Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Nicole Murray said. "A safe and stable home is vital for the success of every family. Supporting the Will County Beer &amp; Bourbon Fest is not only an investment in our community but helps local veterans in need."
Tickets to the Will County Beer and Bourbon Fest are $75 ($65 early bird) for general admission and $125 for VIP. Admission includes entrance from 12pm-5pm (11am VIP), a commemorative glass, samples of beer and bourbon, food available for purchase, live music, vendors, and games.
