To give people incentive to NOT be arrested. It is public record.

Naw... Stalin wouldn't want me to have a gun... he wouldn't like me at all...

The point is, the threat of having your name plastered in the paper or on the internet would make some people think a little more about the consequences of what they are doing.

Maybe a little "cart before the horse", but people arrested for drunk driving, driving without insurance, possession of drugs are "guilty"... while some slick lawyer might get them out of the charges doesn't "prove them innocent"

How do you feel about the four kids arrested for killing the two fellas over on Hickory Street? They were there playing games next to the bodies with plastic bags over their heads. But, nobody has visual evidence they did it. How do you feel about Drew Peterson? Trayvon Martin? Those cases I don't see guilt, but their names are/were plastered everywhere. Where is your complaint against those media articles?

Illinois Statute 50 ILCS 205/3b (Local Records Act) requires police agencies to make this information available to the media.

I'm sure anonymous will argue, that just because it's available it doesn't mean it needs to be put in print.
