Volunteers Sought for Valley View Safety Group

The new committee will consider ways in which to improve school security and prevent tragedies such as the one that occurred in Newtown, Conn.

Valley View School District 365U, like many around the country, is grappling with what types of security measures should be in place to prevent a tragedy such as the one that happen in Connecticut from taking place here.

To that end, the district is seeking volunteers to become part of its school safety committee.

What follows is a news release from the district:

"As Valley View School District 365U re-examines its security procedures in the wake of the elementary school tragedy in Connecticut, district officials are inviting community members to become a part of the VVSD School Safety Committee.

"'This committee will play a key role in taking a look at areas in which we excel and areas in which we need improvement,' said Leroy Brown, VVSD’s School Safety Coordinator."'Recommendations from the committee will assist the administration and Board of Education in making key decisions over the course of the next six months.'"

"The School Safety Committee meets from 5 to 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the Bolingbrook High School library. Anyone interested in joining the committee should contact Shanitra Brooks at 815-886-2700, Ext. 519 or Brooksst@vvsd.org.

"The next meeting is Jan. 16."

I agree if it was 6 or after that would be convenient. Unless there will be child care I don't see a ton of parents being able to attend.

Please contact Ms. Brooks and express your concerns about the time of the meetings. Perhaps they will reconsider and make it more convenient for parents. I strongly agree and we want parents involve, I would think.
