The Great Escape: Off to the Races

If you can't make it to Kentucky, celebrate the derby in high style locally on Saturday, May 7.

As a mom myself, I understand the need for a little “me” time. It clears my head and helps me to relax. It also helps me to appreciate my daughter more, and ultimately, to be a better mom when the two of us have our time together.

Each week, “The Great Escape” will be dedicated to giving moms ideas on ways they can take time out for themselves. So go ahead, read on, and use this as your excuse to make “the great escape” for your much-deserved break.

This week it’ll be necessary to grab your girlfriends and your hats to head off to the races.

If you can't make it to Louisville on Saturday, head to Arlington Park instead to celebrate the running of the Kentucky Derby with the park's Derby Day.

The annual celebration of the Kentucky Derby will last all day and will include live music and, of course, mint juleps. You can even place your bets on one of the world’s greatest sporting events, and one attendee even win $1,000 to bet on the Kentucky Derby in the “$1,000 Ultimate Derby Bet.”

New this year, Arlington Park is offering the “Derby Party Zone,” an exclusive red-carpet experience with all-inclusive food and drinks, and the first 2,500 guests to purchase tickets online will receive a Kentucky Derby glass.

The horses and jockeys will take the post at approximately 5:15 p.m.
