Teen Accused of Assaulting Romeoville Police Officer, DUI
Keith Gaines, 18, allegedly tried to head-butt a cop outside of a Romeoville gas station.
An unincorporated Plainfield teenager found himself in jail late Saturday after he allegedly drove drunk, then attempted to head-butt a Romeoville police officer.
Keith Gaines, 18, of the 13000 block of of South Jonesport in the Lakewood Falls subdivision, was arrested on charges of DUI and aggravated assault of an officer after police responded to the Circle K gas station, 20 S. Weber Rd., around 9:35 p.m. March 16.
"We got a report of somebody in front of the building yelling and screaming at people," Romeoville Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said.
When approached by police, Gaines said he had pulled over at the gas station to use the restroom, according to Lucchesi.
"He refused to cooperate," Lucchesi added. "He continued to yell and scream," and eventually tried to head-butt one of the responding officers, according to police. The officer was not injured.
Officers also discovered an open bottle of vodka on the backseat of the car Gaines had been driving, Lucchesi said.
Gaines was booked into the Will County jail on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated assault of a police officer, resisting/obstructing a police officer, illegal transportation of alcohol, driving with an obstructed windshield, failure to carry a license or driver's permit and operating an uninsured vehicle, according to jail records.
