Son Struck Mom with Screwdriver in Fight, Police Say
Torrence Holmes, of Joliet, also violated an order of protection his mother had taken out to keep him from coming near her, Crest Hill police said.
Torrence D. Holmes, 28, of 1322 Cutter, Joliet, was charged with felony aggravated domestic battery after allegedly striking his mother in her Crest Hill home during a fight over Holmes' refusal to return his mother's cell phone, Deputy Police Chief Ed Clark said.
Police arrived at the home in the 1300 block of Pioneer Road to find Holmes' family members holding him down in the front yard, he said.
Witnesses said the argument over the phone grew violent when Holmes grabbed a screwdriver and struck his mother in the face with it, Clark said. The woman was visibily injured but did not require hospitalization, he said.
According to Will County jail and court records, Holmes has racked up three arrests for domestic battery this year -- May 21, Sept. 19 and Nov. 14. On Nov. 21, his mother obtained an emergency order of protection to keep Holmes away from her.
In addition to being charged with aggravated domestic battery and a violation of an order of protection, Holmes was also arrested on a warrant for failure to appear.
Holmes is being held in the Will County jail pending a hearing at which bond will be set.
