Groups to Boycott Starbucks Over Stances on Gay Rights, Guns
Separate boycotts criticize coffee chain's stances on national issues.
Some religious and political groups are urging Starbucks customers to grab their morning coffee elsewhere in light of the company's stance on gay marriage and its policy on guns.
USA Christian Ministries, a group boycotting Starbucks for its recent support of gay marriage in the state of Washington, said in a news release that the coffee chain's decision has angered Christians.
"Christians are upset with Starbucks for turning against God," Steven Andrew, president of USA Christian Ministries, said.
The group hopes that, with full support from Christians, Starbucks, which operates one standalone location in Romeoville and one inside the Weber Road Target store, could lose up to 80 percent of its business.
Starbucks joined Microsoft and Nike in publicly supporting gay marriage in a statement last week, according to the Seattle Times. In its statement, Kalen Holmes, executive vice president for partner resources, said the company embraces diversity and provides an "inclusive, supportive and safe work environment" for its employees.
"This important legislation is aligned with Starbucks business practices and upholds our belief in the equal treatment of partners," the statement read. "It is core to who we are and what we value as a company."
This isn't the first time the company has made headlines for taking a stance on gay marriage. In 2011, Starbucks was among a group of 70 business and organizations opposing the Defense of Marriage Act, CNN reported.
An unrelated Feb. 14 boycott is planned to protest the company's policy allowing customers with guns to be served.
The National Gun Victims Action Council, an anti-gun group, said in a Jan. 23 news release its goal is to "eliminate the risk of guns in public places and ultimately to bring sane gun laws to the U.S."

I hope I am reading this correctly. Starbucks is going against God? I had no idea Starbucks was based on God and religion? I could have sworn it was just a coffee shop? I for one will happily stop by and purchase a few drinks and snacks in support of Gay Marriage/relationships! I have told me kids that it doesn't matter who you love as long as you love with all your heart and do what is right. If that means your Mother and Father are two completely different nationalities or are of the same sex...so what! Here's to treating myself, my kids and supporting Gay Marriage on ST. VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!

I will never buy another Starbucks product again. I completely disagree on Starbucks support for gay legislation. Starbucks needs to stay out of politics and sell coffee. All Christians should stand together and boycott Starbucks!!

Just wondering, D, did you feel the same way when Target supported a anti-gay candidate in Minnesota? Did you want them to "stay out of politics" too or is it just companies that have policies you don't agree with that you want to stay out?

How un-American and un-Christian of Starbucks! How dare they choose not to judge! How dare they believe that all are equal in the Eyes of God and under the laws of this country!

How un-christian like to judge other people by your beliefs. I thought religion was about love and acceptance of people? Apparently only if it fits into your own agenda.
I will be stopping at Starbucks on the 14th to show my support of Gay marriage. ♥

I've boycotted businesses in the past for being against my beliefs. I don't have a problem with people boycotting but, as a Christian, I am really tired of other "Christians" condemning people. Read James 4. Our call as Christians is to follow what Jesus said is the "Greatest Commandment" - "love God and love others". We are to leave any judgement to God. Wouldn't it be nice is we Christians actually did that???

As christians we are called to Love, love each other and love our enemies...How can we love our enemies when we can't love each other first? Love em all and Let God sort em out...For God sent not his son to condemn..(John 3.17).and neither should we..Pastor Rod-
