Donate to help the family of Kenyatta Parker, a 15-year-old Bolingbrook High School student who died Wednesday.
The family of a 15-year-old Bolingbrook High School student who died last week is asking for donations to help finance her funeral.
The family of Kenyatta Parker started an online fundraising page March 13, called the "Kenyatta Parker 'Precious Life' Fund." You can donate on the Kenyatta Parker page here.
"Donations to the Kenyatta Parker 'Precious Life' Fund, a student of Bolingbrook High School, will be used to finance the arrangements for Kenyatta’s funeral services," according to the description on the page.
"The Parker family hopes to provide a beautiful service in honor of her precious life. We thank you in advance for your donations which will be received in good faith and in love."
More than $4,000 has already been donated. The family's goal is $5,000.
Her family will receive friends for visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Fellowship Baptist Church, at 730 N. Independence Blvd. in Romeoville.

I certainly don't mean any disrespect, my heart goes out to the family. Nonetheless would I be out of line to ask what she died of - I'm presuming an illness?
Perhaps the family doesn't want others to know, if so I'm sorry for being nosey and hope they'll forgive me. God bless and may the good Lord watch over family members and friends who are grieving.

This is so sad!
Bullying is not just done by children. I have heard that the new principal yells, swears and demeans students on a daily basis. It's sad to say, but with the way he treats students, it's no wonder they don't feel safe going to talk to the adults in charge there.
As parents, we need to stand up against bullying whether it is being done by a student, a para pro, a teacher, a dean or the principal. What message are we sending our children if we say it's ok for someone in authority to treat you this way?
Maybe now, the school board and Dr Mitchem will finally act and insist that Mr White change his methods.

I agree, Lori. My son is so miserable at BHS he wants to switch schools and move in with his dad. I only can meet with the principle at his convenience. I emailed him a long letter and all I got back was a form letter email not even addressing the issues I brought up regarding my son. Like a door slamming in my face! I wrote him back and all I got back was a sarcastic reply. I thought he was going to be a good principal but after that I have lost respect for him.

The worse fear of any parent is the loss of a child. All the worse that it was due to suicide. My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family. May the good Lord hold them in His hand during these terrible times.

I offer your family my deepest condolences. I understand the pain that comes from being bullied as I am a survivor of it myself. I truly am saddened that anyone feels forced to commit suicide as a means of escaping that pain. This needs to stop. There's "sensitivity and diversity" seminars held by corporations-- why the heck do we not teach our kids in school the same?? People have little sympathy or any clue that bullied kids suffer from the time they're bullied throughout adulthood with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and even suicide later in life. The scars from bring bullied never heal and the apathy of kids and authority figures who could've prevented it altogether disgusts me. Hold your families close. Love, compassion, and understanding will prevail.
