RHS Students Honored at "Those Who Excel" Luncheon
The annual Valley View School District 365U "Those Who Excel" luncheon honored top achievers from Romeoville High School at a recent luncheon.
The following is a compilation of students honored along with their accomplishments and future plans put together by Valley View School District 365U.
•Nicholas Oderio, Academic Top Senior
Honors: Valedictorian of the Class of 2011, Illinois State Scholar, Prairie State Achievement Award in Reading, Science, and Writing. 3.5 GPA/Higher Student-Athlete Award, Student of the Month, 2010 All-Conference Boys Volleyball, 2010 Boy’s Volleyball MVP.
Clubs, Organizations: National Honor Society, Boy’s Varsity Volleyball, Drum Line, Percussion Ensemble, Manager for Girls Varsity Volleyball, and Scholastic Bowl.
Future Plans: “To attend Adrian College in Michigan and major in physics. I received a full-tuition scholarship and will play Men’s Volleyball there.”
•Stacey Depluyzer, Outstanding Band Student
Honors: Chosen to play in various Honor Bands throughout RHS career: Conference Band (4 years), and Fox Valley Music Festival (2 years). Second person to be an underclassmen drum major in RHS history.
Clubs, Organizations: National Honor Society, Jazz Band, Math Team, and Thespians.
Future Plans: “I will attend Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. And major in biology for the pre-med program, and minor in music education.”
•Alicia Rios, Outstanding Career & Technical Ed Student
Honors: First Honors and Perfect Attendance.
Clubs, organizations: Art Club, Chess Club, and Videogame Club.
Future Plans: “My first choice is Rasmussen College and I would like to study game design and animations or web page designing for on course websites.”
•Katelynn Perez, Outstanding English Student
Honors: Academic Top Ten in class all four years.
Clubs, organizations: National Honor Society, Vice President, and Math Team.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend either the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign or Ohio State University; however, I will major in microbiology. Ultimately, I would like to work in the research field.”
•Caitlyn Crnkovich, Outstanding Female Athlete
Honors: Prairie State Achievement Award in Science, Student Athlete Academic Award, and Girls Volleyball MVP.
Clubs, organizations: National Honor Society, Class Council, Student Government, Student Leadership, and S.A.D.D.
Future Plans: “I plan to study finance at Illinois State University and work as a financial advisor.”
•Sergio Miranda, Outstanding Foreign Language Student
Honors: Top Ten in class, and Academic Award.
Clubs, organizations: National Honor Society, Soccer, and Track.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.”
•Justin Hurdle, Outstanding Leadership Member
Honors: Helped to bring Rachel’s Challenge to RHS. A shavee for 2 years with the “We Baldin” St. Baldricks Team. Assisted in S.A.V.E. Program, and spoke with 8th graders at Lukancic Middle School on what high school is like.
Clubs, Organizations: Freshmen Advisory Mentor, Leadership Club, Senior Class Council, Student Government, and Varsity Baseball.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York with a major in secondary education, U.S. history, and psychology. I plan to become a high school U.S. history teacher.”
•Robert Goshorn, Outstanding Male Athlete
Honors: Baseball and Football MVP and Homecoming King.
Clubs, Organizations: Class Council, Student Leadership, Student Government, S.A.D.D., and Varsity Letterman Football and Basketball.
Future Plans: “To attend Augustana College and study biology and play football.”
•Mateusz Grela, Outstanding Math Student
Honors: Top Ten in Class, Illinois State Scholar, and 3.5 GPA/Higher Student Athlete Award.
Clubs, Organizations: Marching Band, Pep Band, and Pit Orchestra.
Future Plans: “To attend Lewis University and major in aviation. I plan to become a professional pilot.”
•Derek Loggains, Outstanding MCJROTC Student
Honors: 2010-2011 Battalion Commander in MCJROTC Program at RHS.
Clubs, Organizations: Vice President of Semper Fi Society, Varsity Letter Club President, and ROTC Drill Team Captain.
Future Plans: “I leave in July for Basic Training in the Army.”
•Joshua Hill, Outstanding NHS Student
Honors: Top Ten in Class, Illinois State Scholar, and Prairie State Achievement Award in Reading, Mathematics, and Science.
Clubs, organizations: National Honor Society, President.
Future Plans: “To attend Illinois State University where I was accepted in the honors program. I will major in molecular biology.”
•Elise Kuchenbecker, Outstanding Performing Arts Student
Honors: Prairie State Achievement Award in Reading and Science, Section Leader in Marching Band, made it to IMEA District Choir, and Historian in Thespian Society Troupe 1064.
Clubs, organizations: German Club, Madrigal Choir, Marching Band, and played Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz” (RHS’ spring musical).
Future Plans: “To attend VanderCook College of Music and major in music education.”
•Karolina Mniszak, Outstanding Science Student
Honors: Salutatorian of the Class of 2011, Illinois State Scholar, and Girls Tennis MVP.
Clubs, organizations: National Honor Society, Best Buddies, Girls Tennis Team, and Key Club.
Future Plans: “Study biology at either Loyola University or at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.”
•Andrew Bangart, Outstanding Social Studies Student
Honors: Illinois State Scholar, Prairie State Achievement Award in Mathematics, and Top Ten in Class freshman through junior years.
Clubs, organizations: Freshman Tennis, Sophomore Football, Math Team, and Scholastic Bowl.
Future Plans: “I plan to attend Marquette University or MSOE and major in electrical engineering. I would to become an electrical engineer.”
•Hannah Canniff, Outstanding Student Government Member
Honors: Top Ten in class, 2009 All Conference and Area Volleyball Player, 2011 Presidential Volunteer Service Award, and 2011 Scholarship from Zonta Women in Public Affairs.
Clubs, organizations: National Honor Society, Student Government, Student Leadership, Student Council, Track and Volleyball.
Future Plans: “To attend Hope College in Holland, Michigan and major in nursing and minor in Spanish. I would like to become a bilingual nurse who works in pediatric oncology.”
