Dr. Christine Sleeter, professor emerita in the College of Professional Studies at California State University and former president of the National Association for Multicultural Education, will speak at 6 p.m. Feb.14 in the Lewis University Dining Room, located on the university’s main campus in Romeoville.

Her talk will focus on how to promote social justice teaching and learning in K-20 schools. The event is free and open to the public.         

A published author, avid researcher and dedicated teacher, Sleeter has years of experience in the social justice field. She is a former a high school learning disabilities teacher and university faculty member. Sleeter also is immediate past president of the National Association for Multicultural Education. Her research focuses on anti-racist multicultural education and teacher education. She is currently developing a new area, critical family history.

Sleeter has won numerous awards and published over 100 articles in journals and edited books. Her most recent books include “Teaching with Vision, Critical Multiculturalism: Theory and Praxis” and “Doing Multicultural Education for Achievement and Equity.”
