Former RHS Coach and Player to be Indicted into Hall of Fame
Romeoville High School former basketball coach Jack Hermanski and former player Shaun Vandiver will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Hermanski was the head coach at RHS from 1980 to 1986. His accomplishments include leading the Spartans to the school's first winning season and ending with an overall record of 85-80. In his final year, his team placed fourth in state. Hermanski then served as Pat Sullivan's top assistant at University of St. Francis from 1986 to 2010.
Meanwhile, Vandiver was a three-year varsity player and two-time SICA West All-Conference selection under Coach Hermanski. As a senior, he made the All-State squad. Then, he played for the Hutchinson, Kansas Junior College national championship team, was an All Big-8 selection at Colorado, and was the 25th player selected in the NBA draft in 1991. Vandiver then played in Italy and Spain for nine years. Following his playing career, Vandiver was an assistant coach at Boise State, the University of Wyoming, Bowling Green, and Northern Colorado. Now, Vandiver is the head coach at Emporia State in Emporia, Kansas.
